"Urban Inspirational Pop Music With A Heap Of Latin Soul"
That’s how to best describe his music! AMARU is a Grammy® nominated internationally acclaimed independent
recording artist, a trained actor, a published author, a filmmaker, a photographer and a model.
He made his TV debut in his native country then moved to Europe in the early nineties and almost immediately started to work on his craft and hone his skills. Becoming a model for sculptors and art students was the stepping stone of his creative life in Europe and with music and film on his mind he decided to study acting in both Amsterdam, The Netherlands as well as in
Los Angeles, California (U.S.A.), a move that has generated an impressive resumé of acting credits in film,
television, commercials and print.
AMARU made his big European TV debut in the intro of the Dutch game show “Now Or Never”,
in which he was cast to portray the late opera legend Luciano Pavarotti.
Traveling to Chicago (U.S.A.) in the summer of 2007 generated the completion of his first musical endeavor
“AMARU: The First EP”, released in April 2008. While acting gigs kept pouring in, it would take several
years before his next musical project.
“Champagne Attitude”, his first full length album, was released in May 2018.
The album was very well received and it has won two Gold Medals at the very prestigious
Global Music Awards in California (U.S.A.). The music videos accompanying his single releases were
also awarded a tremendous amount of international film and music awards.
AMARU made his literary debut on 20 December 2020 by releasing his cookbook
"AMARU COOKS - A Touch Of Suriname Through Food & Anecdotes". The book is available worldwide
and to this day it is the only cookbook in the world in English to feature authentic recipes from his native country the
Republic of Suriname, South America.
Juneteenth 2024 sees the release of AMARU’s 3rd. album "The Crime Of Silence". “Traces Of My Melanin”,
the music video of the first single from this set, has won a total of 19 (!!) international film awards since its release
while the second single, “Este Hombre (El Tesoro)”, a Spanish dance song and tribute to the LGBTQIA community,
has hit the top of multiple charts on Spotify! In addition to that “The Crime Of Silence” was also
a Grammy® contender that year. And speaking of which, AMARU’s first ever musical collaboration
“Hoodoo” is part of the Grammy® nominated album “The Fury” by Antonio Vergara!
In September 2025 he released his fourth album “Hindsight”, a retrospective collection featuring
remixed, remastered and some previously unreleased songs.
In November 2025 he released an original upbeat Christmas love song, his first ever and a
music video to match, all while working on his fifth release:
a Spanish dance album, scheduled for a release in the Spring of 2026.
